Stranded Boats and Lotus Leaves
Stranded Boats and Lotus Leaves

This painting is about global warming and the preciousness of water. I was partly remembering my childhood spent at Daymer Bay in Cornwall, the sand, rocks and estuaries, but I also wanted to convey the feeling of the sea drying up leaving boats stranded. In amongst all these elements are lotus leaves, a symbol of hope.
It is also about paint, different ways of applying paint, scraping off, fluid paint,, which takes in aspects of my more abstract work but in this case it headed towards figuration. This canvas went through much change, especially with forms being taken out, re-established, colours changed, colours lightened, etc.
Acrylic on canvas 70 x 50 cm
