Fiona's Final Goodbye to Burrswood: Dusk
Fiona's Final Goodbye to Burrswood: Dusk

This is another painting from my Burrswood theme.
The final day I spent at Burrswood - December 2nd - was such a sunny day and as I walked out through the forest the sun was setting. Winter sunsets have an incredible quality of light; colours appear to slide in to each other. I looked back and saw the distant hills catching the last light while the forest was bathed in melting tones of gold and green. There is a kind of chessboard on the hills which I see as the chessboard of life - I never imagined that random events would cause Burrswood to close - and I'm naked in front of Nature, as we all are.
This is not a literal representation. I've moved things around to create what I see as the essence of the last moments.
This painting is also an exploration of different ways to apply colour and marks. I've used thin stains and thick areas as elements of the painting.
Acrylic on canvas,
92 x 73 cm
