Beyond the Black Lake
Beyond the Black Lake

While I believe that a painting does not necessarily need explanation, I also think that the artist's intention and aims are important to know. Much of my work has an underlying narrative even when the work is quite abstract. I use my love of landscape to express my feelings about life and various ideas that have resulted from certain experiences.

In this case, it is about darkness being accompanied by bright colours and movement to convey transience and a progression beyond. An idea that kept recurring was that the turquoise shape on top of the 'lake' could represent home.
