Dusk Winter Birdsong
Dusk Winter Birdsong

During my hundreds of times painting in the land and walking back through forests at dusk, I've noticed how birdsong varies according to the seasons. After some hours painting, your senses become attuned to your surroundings in a very deep way and I'd notice how shrill and plaintive the notes of the birdsong were as they seemed to melt into darkening trees and the smell of moss and pools of water. Everything seemed to overlap and become One.

I wanted to paint about the fading light and the sound of those shrill notes. I've referenced the sounds by the use of pure, bright colour which is quite 'shrill' in its tone against the fading colours of the environment.

One of an ongoing series of small canvases leading to larger work.
