'Social Integration, Peace and Opening Up.'

Sometimes I like to incorporate figuration into my paintings. This was painted to a brief which was 'Social Integration and Opening Up,' (for the Dafen 1st International Oil Painting Biennale). My idea was to interpret the connections between different nationalities with coloured bricks or pieces of a puzzle. There are various meetings, and groups dancing joyfully, and the open landscape behind them with its glimmers of colours reflects potentiality and optimism for an integrated future. I also left the landscape open to reflect the space for changes.

The painting was selected for the Dafen Biennale (Shenzhen, China, November 2018 - further information in my News section)

I found that while working simultaneously on my abstract landscapes, there was a cross-over of elements from the different approaches which I feel is very helpful and positive. It is good to break out into other approaches as it freshens up the work.
