First Glimpse
First Glimpse

This was inspired by my painting residency in China in 2016 and a continued use of ink on rice paper and several watercolours made in situ.
My first Glimpse as I was driven from Beijing to the Great Wall area was of sunshine cutting through swathes of forest, various shapes and tendrils of unknown plants, and tiny grey stone houses (hutongs). On my first night on the residency (album included on this website), I made a watercolour assembling elements from my early morning arrival, and this painting was worked from that painting on my return to the UK..
Acrylic, ink and oil on canvas
